COVID 19 Update
March 24th, 2020
Planned Parenthood NL Sexual Health Centre COVID 19 Operations Update
We have been monitoring the situation with COVID-19 closely and have been changing how we function as a centre and clinic for the past three weeks. Right now, we are open for telehealth services (phone appointments) and extremely limited physical appointments when deemed absolutely necessary by our doctors. If you do have to come to a physical appointment you may be asked to remain outside until the previous appointment is finished. Right now, we are unable to provide routine screenings (STI and Pap) as the public health labs focus on the current pandemic. We can provide prescriptions over the phone if you are symptomatic or in need of birth control by appointment.
Currently we are unable to take drop-in appointments and will be keeping our doors locked. We are available via the phone for sexual health questions, concerns, and options counselling for pregnancy. We will be using a contactless system if you need to pick up birth control, condoms, or a take home pregnancy test. You must call or message us ahead of time and, weather permitting, we will drop what you need on our front porch for you to pick up. If you get your birth control from us and need a new pack please call 579-1009 or email [email protected]. Right now, we will only be selling one pack per client. We will be changing our hours of operations and encourage you to look on our Facebook page or webpage for more information.
We have been working on adding more online resources and content to our website this year – we are now fast tracking this and hope to have more updates on this in the coming weeks. We are also looking into Zoom, and livestream educational sessions. We were going to have our first adult 2SLGBTQ+ group meeting this March this is postponed obviously but in the next little while we are going to try and have a virtual replacement.
Lastly, and this is the hardest to say, we will have to cancel our Spring Gala planned for April. All ticket holders, donors, sponsors, and volunteers will be contacted individually this coming week. This is a major financial hit for us along with limiting appointments, not having daily visitors who donate or buy things from us, and many of our regular donors being, understandably, unable to donate currently. Our Annual Spring Gala is our major yearly fundraising event and cancelling it does leave us in a hard position. We know that this pandemic has impacted many people financially. We are hoping that our supporters and donors who do have something to spare think of us when donating. Small donations of $5-$50 a week or month really add up for us and often people don’t even notice the donations coming out.
We hope that everyone is taking care of themselves and each other and staying safe. We know things seem dark right now, but we believe in the people of this province and the community that has never failed to lift us up to be able to rebuild after this. Stay safe!
Thank you,
Nikki Baldwin (she/her)

Mean Girls fundraiser for Planned Parenthood NLSHC
Details
We have heard that a group will be renting a theatre to watch the propaganda film Unplanned. We were disheartened that people in our province wanted to see something so obviously false and horrific. But we decided that instead of getting upset we would just plan our own event: a fundraiser for Planned Parenthood NLSHC.
We will be showing Mean Girls at noon (time to be confirmed) on the same day. This is a lighthearted cult classic about the negative affects of bullying. We also felt it was fitting with it being Pride Week.
Tickets will be a minimum $10 donation. For now you can purchase a ticket by etransferring or donating with the donor box link with a note saying “tickets for _______” (with the names of the ticket holders in the blank). You can also buy tickets in person at the centre anytime we are open.

Planned Parenthood NL's Spring Gala
April 8th, 2019
Re: 2019 Dinner and Auction
You are invited to attend Planned Parenthood Newfoundland and Labrador Sexual Health Centre’s Spring
Charity Gala on May 11th, 2019. This event raises much needed funds to deliver Planned Parenthood’s
services and programming. It has always been a great success but only with the support from generous
organizations such as yours. Planned Parenthood is hoping that we can count on your support to ensure
the success of this event. The evening will include a three course dinner at the Sheraton Hotel
Newfoundland as well as some local musical performances and an auction. We will also be using the
Gala to announce our exciting move to a new facility as well as our new logo/branding launch.
We are currently selling tickets to our event as well as an exciting Table Sponsorship package. Individual
tickets are $120 each and you receive a $60 charitable receipt for each ticket purchased. Table
Sponsorship packages are $1000 and you receive a table with 10 seats, a custom table marker, an ad in
our auction booklet, and immediate recognition on social media and our website as well as a $500
charitable receipt.
As you may know Planned Parenthood NL is a major part of our local community and provides a
significant amount of free services to the people of our community. For just an idea of the scope of our
reach between January and October of 2018, we have seen more than 2100 patients in our doctors
clinics, had approximately 550 drop ins, and answered over 5000 phone calls. In that time we also made
countless presentations at schools and community centers as well as putting off our annual 4-day
leadership camp, Camp Eclipse. We run almost entirely on volunteers with only two employees.
We are in desperate need of funding as we continue to grow to accommodate the needs of our
community. As you may know Planned Parenthood is funded in most part by private donations and grants
so your donations are very valuable to us. This event helps to raise much needed funds for these
programs and we hope that you will help ensure its success. To arrange the purchase of tickets or if you
have any questions please contact Nikki Baldwin or Shannon Driscoll at 579-1009 or email
[email protected] and [email protected]
Thank you for your time and consideration and I look forward to your response,
Nikki Baldwin (She/Her)

SYPHILIS IN EASTERN NL (POSTED FEBRUARY 21, 2018)
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Planned Parenthood - Newfoundland and Labrador Sexual Health Centre has unfortunately been witness to the current rise in syphilis diagnoses in the Avalon region mentioned by Eastern Health today. We would like to reach out to the public and assure them that syphilis is treatable, and that practicing safer sex reduces its risk of transmission. To avoid transmission of syphilis, we also encourage individuals using drugs not to share equipment with others. The Safe Works Access Program (SWAP) run by the AIDS Committee of Newfoundland and Labrador is a fantastic resource for those in need of safer equipment for drug use, and we can provide any of our clients with their information upon request. Some symptoms of syphilis may include a sore or chancre on the area of exposure, an unexplained rash, swollen glands, and/or a general feeling of being unwell. We strongly urge individuals who may have been exposed to syphilis to seek judgement-free care at our Centre by making an appointment to see one of our physicians for a blood work request form. Anyone who is curious or concerned about their sexual health can call or visit our Centre for peer support, counselling, internal and external condoms, dental dams, or to be seen by a physician during one of our clinic times. We would also like to remind the public that our services are free!

Thank you for your ongoing support! We’re happy to announce that through a partnership with the Corner Brook Status of Women Centre, and a very energetic group of interested individuals, we are working towards opening a Sexual Health Centre in Corner Brook, NL!
As Planned Parenthood – Newfoundland and Labrador Sexual Health Centre is currently the only sexual health centre in the entire province, this proposed centre in Corner Brook will be a space for sexual health screening, pregnancy testing, peer support, counselling and LGBTQ resources for residents of the area.
Please stay tuned for more information.
In the meantime, please check out the following for more information or you may contact Paula Shepherd at the Corner Brook Status of Women Centre [email protected] :
