Planned Parenthood Newfoundland and Labrador envisions a province where all people experience positive, comprehensive, and affirming sexual health.

OUR MISSION
Planned Parenthood NLSHC is a non-profit charitable organization that promotes positive sexual health for all and the social determinants of health for 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals through education, community partnership, information, and services within an environment that supports and respects individual choice. Our services are available to anyone regardless of age, race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, gender expression, socioeconomic status, physical or mental ability, sexual orientation, religion, religious creed, national or social origin, martial status, family status and political opinion.

Our Values

  • Choice: Anyone has the right to make their own decisions regarding their own body and life.
  • Respect: Prioritizing a respectful environment means acknowledging and valuing each individual’s experiences, identities, and choices.
  • Dignity: Ensuring dignity means treating every individual with inherent worth and respect, regardless of their background, identity, or life situation. It’s about creating an environment where people feel safe, valued, and dignified in every interaction and service they receive.
  • Inclusivity: At Planned Parenthood NLSHC, it means actively working to create a welcoming space for all people. Deepening Inclusivity drives the organization to continuously evaluate and improve its services and outreach to ensure that no one is excluded or marginalized.
  • Accountability: Maintaining a high standard of integrity and transparency across all aspects of the organization’s work. It means being responsible to the communities served, to funders, and to each other as team members, always striving to deliver on promises and commitments and to improve based on feedback and outcomes.
  • Confidentiality: Respecting the confidentiality of all clients is paramount in building trust and ensuring safety. We do this by safeguarding personal information, sharing details only with explicit consent and in accordance with the law, ensuring that clients feel secure in seeking and receiving help.
  • Education: Education is foundational to empowering individuals to make informed choices. We provide accurate, comprehensive, and accessible information that is free of bias and grounded in scientific evidence, catering to diverse learning styles and cultural backgrounds.
  • Harm Reduction: Harm reduction strategies are crucial in supporting individuals in making safer choices without judgment. This approach recognizes the realities of high-risk behaviours and seeks to minimize harmful consequences through accessible information, support, and services that meet people where they are at in their lives.
  • Sex Positivity: Promoting sex positivity means embracing human sexuality as a natural and healthy part of life. We do this by creating a supportive environment that encourages positive and affirming attitudes toward sexuality and sexual relationships, challenging stigmas and myths, and promoting consent and mutual respect.
