Frequently Asked Questions

What's the number?
Call/text: 1-866-230-8041
Chat: Online on our website (Bottom corner)
When can I call?
The warm line is currently operating during the following hours (Newfoundland time zone):
  • Monday-Friday:1PM-5PM and 6pm- 12 midnight
  • Saturday and Sunday: 6PM-12 midnight

I can't get through! What do I do?
We do our best to keep the line staffed in order to answer all calls. However, we have a limited number of volunteers. If a volunteer is not available when you call, please keep calling and we can get to you in time.
If you cannot wait please try calling a different warm line like Kids Help Phone (now open to all ages) 1800 668-6868 or text 686868.

Will my call be recorded?
The audio of phone calls made through the Warm Line is not recorded, however text/chat logs are saved for quality assurance purposes. Some general data about the call will be recorded, but it will be anonymous and untraceable.
Will you call the police/emergency services on me?
What if I am not 2SLGBTQIA+, but I have a 2SLGBTQIA+ loved one (or client, coworker, etc)?
You are still welcome to call and get support for yourself surrounding issues about your 2SLGBTQIA+ loved one from our 2SLGBTQIA+ volunteers. However, be aware that we may cut the call short to make space for 2SLGBTQIA+ callers.
How do I volunteer?
To volunteer on the warm line, you must live in Newfoundland and Labrador, identify as 2SLGBTQIA+, and be 18 or older. You will also need to have a phone and internet connection, and a quiet private place to take calls. Training will be conducted biannually and a link to the application form will be added here.

Land Acknowledgement

St. John’s is home to a rich, diverse, and vibrant urban Indigenous community. Located on the ancestral and unceded territory of the Beothuk, the lands and waters in and around the City have traditionally served as a gathering place for the Mi’kmaq. The broader region of Newfoundland and Labrador continues to be home to diverse Indigenous Peoples, including First Nations, Inuit, and Métis. We honour and pay respect to the past, present, and future caretakers of these territories.

Thank you to First Light NL for this acknowledgment.

Labour Acknowledgement

We acknowledge that Canada and its colonies, including the Newfoundland and Labrador shipbuilding and cod fishery industries, are built on the brutality of forced and unpaid labour willfully extracted from people of African descent and their relations through trans-Atlantic enslavement. We honour the spirits of those who were taken from their homes and perished during the Middle Passage, those who made it and continued to fight for Black liberation in various ways and those yet to be fertilized.  We recognize that the systems of colonization and enslavement remains embedded in the Canadian fabric and results in ongoing anti-Black violence and carnage, including lack of safety, capitalism, exploitation, and death, in Black communities and families.
