What is Queering the Compass?
The Queering the Compass project promotes the sexual and reproductive health (SRH) of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities by advancing the knowledge and skills needed to navigate their SRH care and by improving the capacity, knowledge, and skills of the healthcare/service providers who serve them. Using a collaborative approach, CBRC worked alongside six regional partners including PPNLSHC, 2SLGBTQIA+ community members across Canada, and healthcare/service providers to develop and deliver a range of initiatives including knowledge exchange resources, community programming, and policy that focus on addressing sexual and reproductive health inequities across Canada. Recognizing the diverse factors that contribute to sexual and reproductive health and well-being for 2SLGBTQIA+ people, we extend our focus beyond sexually transmitted infections to address topics such as gender-affirming care, pleasure, sex and disability, and family planning.
The overall approach to building the capacity, knowledge, and skills of healthcare/service providers included training, health promotion resources, and policy initiatives that focus on addressing gaps in 2SLGBTQIA+ SRH care. This multi-faceted approach leverages CBRC’s research expertise along with the lived and professional experiences of 2S/LGBTQIA+ communities, community-based organizations like Planned Parenthood NL, and healthcare/service providers. By the end of this project, CBRC produced lasting networks, community programming, provider training resources, and key policy and knowledge mobilization resources that help create a more equitable sexual and reproductive health landscape for 2SLGBTQIA+ people across the country
