2SLGBTQIA+ Warm Line

Picture
"About the Warm Line
Planned Parenthood NL’s 2SLGBTQIA+ Warm Line is a peer support service run by and for 2SLGBTQIA+ people in Newfoundland and Labrador. If you need someone to talk to, call us and we will do our best to support you and provide you resources.
The goals of the Warm Line are as follows:
  • Create a safer space for 2SLGBTQIA+ people in NL to talk through their problems/concerns.
  • Take the pressure off of existing crisis or warmlines that 2SLGBTQIA+ people may be using in the absence of a specific warm line.
  • Connect those in the 2SLGBTQIA+ community with more experience and more to give to those seeking help or someone to talk to

History and Funding
Launched in 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic and heightened social isolation with emergency funding from the United Way NL, the Warm Line endeavoured to create a sense of connection, community, and hope for its callers.

After a short closure due to a lack of available funding in 2023, the Government of NL’s Office of Women and Gender Equality (WGE) heard from us, the public, and other community organizations about how important the 2SLGBTQIA+ Warm Line is to NL and how it contributes to ending Gender Based Violence (GBV). In response the Office of WGE NL included funding for PPNLSHC’s 2SLGBTQIA+ Warm Line in their request to the Federal Government’s National Action Plan to End GBV (NAP-GBV).
We are incredibly grateful for the support from the Government of NL and the Office of WGE as well as individual sponsors and donors.
We continue to accept donations and sponsorships and seek grants for the 2SLGBTQIA+ Warm Line operations. Additional funding will be used to support volunteers, promote the warm line, and hopefully, one day, be able to pay our peer supporters for their time and efforts. Donate here or contact [email protected] to discuss sponsorship or grant opportunities.
Interested in volunteering as a Warm Line operator?
Applications will be available here when they open!

Land Acknowledgement

St. John’s is home to a rich, diverse, and vibrant urban Indigenous community. Located on the ancestral and unceded territory of the Beothuk, the lands and waters in and around the City have traditionally served as a gathering place for the Mi’kmaq. The broader region of Newfoundland and Labrador continues to be home to diverse Indigenous Peoples, including First Nations, Inuit, and Métis. We honour and pay respect to the past, present, and future caretakers of these territories.

Thank you to First Light NL for this acknowledgment.

Labour Acknowledgement

We acknowledge that Canada and its colonies, including the Newfoundland and Labrador shipbuilding and cod fishery industries, are built on the brutality of forced and unpaid labour willfully extracted from people of African descent and their relations through trans-Atlantic enslavement. We honour the spirits of those who were taken from their homes and perished during the Middle Passage, those who made it and continued to fight for Black liberation in various ways and those yet to be fertilized.  We recognize that the systems of colonization and enslavement remains embedded in the Canadian fabric and results in ongoing anti-Black violence and carnage, including lack of safety, capitalism, exploitation, and death, in Black communities and families.
